![]() Online play isn't something that can just be added to any game and work perfectly. Posts like this are why I'm outright dismissive about anyone complaining about multiplayer games being local only. ![]() ![]() Consider this when choosing to purchase this game. If you only intend to play only local multiplayer and singleplayer, then Nidhogg will probably work for you. In short, If you are planning to buy and play Nidhogg with non-local friends over the game's online multiplayer, Nidhogg probably won't work for you. This game doesn't have the quality netcode necessary of a fighting game, and it probably never will. So to all of you other consumers, be wary. Sadly, any warning of the game's terrible netcode seem to be missing from many of it's reviews over numerous gaming websites. The dev, Mark Essen has shown no plans to solve this massive problem or even interest in patching the game. “įurthermore, as indicated in a number of the linked steam reviews, this issue has not been fixed, nor has the game been updated since it's initial release exactly one year ago. There is currently no indication that the developer intends to fix the problem, yet they are offering a 2-pack purchase option. “The online multiplayer, however, is severely broken. “Now the bad things are, as some people have mentioned The ONLINE multiplayer is currently unplayable, a big bummer for me. “This game was meant for LOCAL play only, the online play is horribly laggy and the devoloper(s) haven't updated this game since it's release date.“ “BUT THE MULTIPLAYER IS THE WORST THING EVER, the devs don't give a ♥♥♥♥!” “Big-Headded indie devs sell broken multiplayer experience at a price that would make your grandma close her coin purse.” “This should not be purchuased for online multiplayer as that is currently a very poor system” “Online Multiplayer is broken, I hope someday get this fixed.” “The biggest problem with this is the multiplayer system only works when it wants to so you can't even play online with your buddies unless the "Server" is feeling okay.” and many players have reported in their steam reviews, the game's the broken multiplayer. The issue has been known and discussed since the game's initial release on steam a whole year ago. And, I am not the only one to notice this. The networking back end however, is broken for many players. Simply, Nidhogg's online networking is utterly broken for the many who attempt to play with non-local friends. Otherwise, the latency and stuttering was too much when trying to play with any of my other friends. The only surefire method I found was to only play with my friend who lives just a few blocks away. I personally tested with a number of different friends from all over North America possible ways to get the game to work. However, the connecting player experiences a whole host of issues including stuttering, lag spikes, getting stuck on in-game cliffs, audio and visual glitches, and occasional crashes. Whichever player is the host, runs without lag or any stuttering. Sadly, Nidhogg's netcode is atrocious and thus makes the game's online multiplayer utterly broken. If lag is too great, the game immediately become unplayable. Networked Play Challenge your friends or find the lowest latency match online through matchmaking.Īs Nidhogg is a fighting game, online play is dramatically affected by lag. Although the game's steam page claims otherwise, As a few of you may have been unlucky enough to find out, the Nidhogg's steam release doesn't have much of a functioning online multiplayer.
